Dec 12, 2018

New contract covers approximately 1,200 employees who live and work on Long Island

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. – Leaders of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1049 advised National Grid on Monday, December 10, that their membership had ratified the tentative collective bargaining agreement that was reached last month.

The new contract is a two-year agreement, which commences after the expiration of the current contract term on February 14, 2019, and expires on February 13, 2021.  The agreement covers approximately 1,200 employees that support National Grid’s gas operations, generation business and various other support functions on Long Island and the Rockaway Peninsula.

“I’m pleased that we have reached this two-year agreement with National Grid,” says Ron Bauer, IBEW Local 1049 Business Manager & Financial Secretary.  “This new contract provides security and stability for all our members at National Grid and recognizes the exceptional craftsmanship and critical service our gas operations, generation and support members provide to customers on Long Island.”

The terms of the new agreement, which was ratified with 85% approval by IBEW 1049 members, balances the needs of employees, customers and shareholders.

“I personally want to thank the leadership of Local 1049, and the dedication of all those involved who delivered this outcome on behalf of our employees and customers of National Grid,” says John Bruckner, President, National Grid New York.
